Mark Twain Elementary School
Bill teaches physical education at Mark Twain Elementary School in St. Joseph, MO and received a PFA grant in 2002. Bill is a zealot for children’s health and wellness, reaching out beyond the gym and playing field to inspire and motivate not only his students, but also fellow teaching staff, parents and community. He communicates with parents the importance of physical activity outside of regular physical education classes and encourages them to become more involved with their child’s fitness. His principal, Pam Kent states, "A visitor to a class being instructed by Mr. Ryser would immediately see that teaching life skills is highly valued in addition to his expectation of improved physical fitness and health by all." It is this leadership and advocacy that brings Bill to our attention as truly deserving of the spotlight as a Teacher of the Year.
