Karen Nagle Bagby
Herbert Hoover Elementary
Karen Nagle Bagby teaches elementary physical education at Herbert Hoover School in Iowa City, IA and received a PFA grant in 2001. Karen’s passion for physical education is beyond the scope of her classroom and her campus. She looks for and finds so many wonderful and creative ways to bring character building to her students. Fostering not only the love of physical movement, but the desire by her students to grow in all the right directions, to make good choices. Karen has emerged herself in all corners of the education community. She shows the public what her students have accomplished by having them participate and peform in clubs, half time shows, and assemblies. She is a frequent collaborator with other professionals and community members. She feels a duty to “grow the profession” and to share what she has learned and in turn be willing to learn from others. She is a mix of grass roots-front line education with her heart first and foremost in the classroom, and yet she is a strong leader and catalyst for improvement and innovation in her profession. Her principal, Marilyn Wirtz, writes to us, “Karen is a leader among her peers, an articulate spokesperson, a giver of her talents and a team player. Above all, Karen is a child advocate and outstanding teacher.” We are so excited to welcome Karen into the fold of outstanding All-Star Teachers. She is truly deserving a national spotlight and is a role model for national education community.
