2012 PFA All Star Teacher
Terry Leigh Clayton

Terry Leigh Clayton

Lawhon Elementary School
Tupelo, Mississippi

Terry came to this school after the Project Fit America grant was awarded and became a real student of all the programming possibilities she could create.   She made a point of visiting other PFA schools and joining their in-services to learn and collaborate with other teachers using this program.

She does not settle for second best when it comes to her student’s health and fitness.  She is challenged by only seeing her students once a week for 50 minutes and took it upon herself to create a schedule for classroom teachers to take their students to the “Project Fit Yard” during their regular recess.  Her program is the “heart and soul” of the school!  When the students were recently surveyed about their favorite time at school…. hands down, PE was the overwhelming top vote getter!    Terry is an outstanding example of how powerful broad based fitness can truly be to inspire, motive and change kid’s lives.  The stories she shares will move, touch and inspire you.
